Vulnerable

Asphalt glitter in streetlight shine––
vibrant green framing encircles us
let them see no crime.

Ground still warm bare feet from
long-gone blistering sunlight,
prying eyes, parental stares.
Everything is safer now.

Tan skin bare and naked chest
arms riddled with canopy shadows––
heated neck, jaw, thumb–inner palms.

Hands fit together tenderly
uninhibited and vulnerable.
Raise the corners of my lips,
make my cheeks flush.

Bury my face upon his bone structure.
Tumble across his skin.
Warm arms surround me, then
birth me to the evening air.

The surreal setting fills up in my chest
smile irrevocably lodged in my throat.

I fly home,
bicycle pedals and handle bars
the only things that ground me.
